A Splash of Compassion 2007

The inaugural "A Splash of Compassion" was a fabulous success! The beautiful Melbourne Aquarium was a wonderful setting for this stellar event. The sunset view of the Yarra River and South Bank and the stupendous central fish tank featured in the middle of the venue. Glorious bouquets of orange flowers, supplied by Robert Walker added to the stylish look and feel of the evening - as did 450 of the most beautifully dressed people in Melbourne!

Delicious food and drink flowed freely throughout the night and much needed funds were raised for the GOYA Foundation.

Greg Evans was the convivial host of the evening while Little Flo and Bomba entertained the guests. The sultry tones of Little Flo greeted the guests who were all presented with a wrist band made from the fabric woven by the women we are supporting in Timor. Bomba thrilled GOYA's old and new friends by roving throughout the venue with their drums, trumpets, tamborines and fantastic rhythms. It felt like the Mardi Gras in Rio! The night was filled with surprises...a Melbourne Victory Soccer Ball was auctioned for $1300 and many generous guests bid competitively on our silent auction items and hampers. There was a wide range of goods included original artworks, food and wine hampers, autographed copies of Stephanie Alexander's cookbooks, Beauty pamper packs, Taste of Timor handicraft and ceramic art and the Bunnings gardening hampers.

Our Founder Felicity Fraser, spoke of the responsibility we have to share the benefits of our lives with those who have so little and of the excitement you can experience by giving of yourself and becoming involved in an organisation such as GOYA.

The GOYA stall was also a popular attraction with many new members joining us in our efforts and purchasing GOYA merchandise.
Door prizes, lucky tickets and a gift bag for every guest were other surprises that left each attendee with a smile on their face.
The youth Splash committee (yes, the organisers of all this are all about 20 years old!!) had been working on this event for 18 months.
They are Sophie Steele, Eloise Borello, Emily Dewan, Lisian Teh, Emma Zalcman, Fran Leaper, Angelina Morino, Laura Trengove, Ildi Amon and Meghan Downes.

The Splash Committee would like to thank all of our sponsors, especially De Bortoli wines and the many individuals and businesses who so generously supported this event and made it a reality. Ildi Amon
